Supporting organ and tissue donation is a team effort and, at Quinte Health, we’re #strongertogether as we strive to save and enhance lives through donation.

Quinte Health is proud to have earned a Provincial Eligible Approach Rate Award from Ontario Health (Trillium Gift of Life Network). This award recognizes our leading practices in facilitating a donation discussion between Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) and eligible patients/families of patients at end of life. The target for this award is an approach rate of 90% and Quinte Health achieved 100% in 2022/2023.

The Quinte Health team also earned a Provincial Conversion Rate Award for reaching a conversion rate of 75%, which exceeds the target of 63% set by TGLN. The conversion rate is the percentage of potential organ donors who went on to become actual donors.

“Congratulations to everyone at Quinte Health who contributes in some way, big or small, to our organ and tissue donation efforts,” said Nicole Duchrow, Director of Critical Care, Emergency, Community and Rural Services, Quinte Health. “These awards represent Quinte Health’s commitment to organ and tissue donation while recognizing the patients and families of donors. Thank you to everyone involved for their compassion, dedication and teamwork.”

In 2022/2023, Quinte Health had three organ donors, which led to five organs donated for transplant, saving four lives. Additionally, there were 25 tissue donors, enhancing the lives of many others.

“Ontario’s hospitals have made an outstanding contribution to organ and tissue donation across the province and we are proud to partner with their exemplary teams of healthcare professionals throughout the year to continue this vital work,” said Rebecca Cooper, Vice President, Ontario Health (Ontario Renal Network and Trillium Gift of Life Network). “By ensuring that the wishes of donors are realized, we honour their selflessness and the legacy they intend to leave behind. Every Ontarian has the potential to save or significantly enhance a life one day by registering at BeADonor.ca and speaking to their family about their donation decision.”
