If you’ve ever crossed paths with Amedeo Ruberto (better known as ‘Amo’) at Quinte Health, you’ve likely been greeted with his signature optimism. When asked how he’s doing, this Food Service Worker will inevitably answer the same: “I’m always good.”

Recently, Stacey Daub, President and CEO of Quinte Health, stepped into the Belleville General Hospital kitchen to spend time with Amo and learn more about his essential role in nourishing patients. Their conversation shone a light on his unwavering work ethic, team-first mentality, and deep commitment to the people he serves.

Before joining Quinte Health 12 years ago, he spent 15 years as a grocery manager, often working long hours. Wanting to be more present for his son, who was 18 months old at the time, he sought out a shift-based role at Quinte Health. He takes pride in his work and the teamwork that makes the Food Service department run smoothly. “We have a very strong team. When we’re short-handed, no one needs to tell us what to do—we just know.”

With an Italian and Scottish background, food has always been a central part of Amo’s life. He grew up cooking with his extended Italian family and has passed that love of cooking on to his 13-year-old son, who now cooks for the family once a week.

Reflecting on her time with Amo, Stacey said, “Amo’s approach to work is driven by empathy and a desire to brighten someone’s day. He lives by the phrase, ‘it’s not what someone said, it’s how they made you feel.’ I can only imagine the thousands of people he’s made an impact on—both patients and colleagues. His positivity, resilience, and genuine care for those around him make him an invaluable part of Quinte Health.”
