Team Quinte Health: We All Make a Difference
A security guard with Quinte Health for the past six years, Peter Niblett plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the hospital—often with little fanfare, but always with great care.
Before joining Quinte Health, Peter had roles in industrial security and also drove a wheelchair-accessible van for VON Health at Home, aiding people in getting to appointments. He loved that work because it let him help people—a thread that continues in his role today.
As a general-purpose guard at Belleville General Hospital, Peter goes wherever he’s needed. That could mean responding to calls in the emergency department or mental health unit, helping a lost visitor find their way, ensuring the premises are secure, or keeping an eye on the parking lots. He’s a calm, steady presence in a fast-paced environment where people are often at their most vulnerable.
“A hospital is unlike anywhere else,” said Peter. “People come here in crisis. I try not to be judgemental—just because someone looks disheveled doesn’t mean they’re here to cause trouble. They might just be looking for help.”
Stacey Daub, President and CEO of Quinte Health, recently spent time getting to know Peter and learning more about his role. Reflecting on their conversation, Stacey said, “Peter brings a valuable combination of professionalism and compassion to his role. He knows how to de-escalate with empathy, and he’s built strong relationships that make a difference every day. He’s exactly the kind of person we want on our team.”
