Celebrating the heart of our hospitals – National Volunteer Week April 27-May 3

As we move into April, we’re gearing up to celebrate National Volunteer Week later this month — a time to recognize the incredible impact volunteers have on our health care system and our communities.

This year’s theme, “Volunteers Make Waves,” was chosen by Volunteer Canada to highlight the power, momentum, and collective impact of volunteerism across the country. Just like water — always flowing, shifting, and transforming — each act of volunteerism, big or small, creates ripples of positive change that move outward and multiply.

At Quinte Health, we see these waves every day.

From warm welcomes at our entrances and helping hands in patient care areas, to the comfort of pet therapy and the bustle of our retail spaces, volunteers are embedded in the rhythm of our hospitals. In 2024, our volunteers contributed thousands of hours across more than 50 services and programs — making a lasting difference in every corner of our organization.

Whether it’s a retired teacher offering support to a stroke patient, a local businessperson serving on a Foundation Board, or a longtime Auxiliary member organizing our seasonal bazaars, each volunteer brings their own unique wave of energy, empathy, and generosity. And together, they build momentum — improving patient experiences, lifting up our staff, and strengthening the fabric of our communities.

Later this month, we’ll be sharing stories and shout-outs to highlight the people behind the impact. Keep an eye out for our National Volunteer Week communications as we celebrate the many ways our volunteers make waves.

Your Challenge: Catch the Wave — Thank a Volunteer!

Whether you’re a member of the Quinte Health team, a patient, or a visitor — take a moment this month to say a heartfelt thank you to a volunteer. A smile, a kind word, or a quick “we appreciate you” can go a long way. Let’s make gratitude part of the ripple effect.
