We All Make a Difference – Special Edition
Spotlight on: Maggie McDougall & Meals on Wheels
Community support services agencies can make all the difference in helping people heal and live independently. In Prince Edward County, where nearly 30% of the population is over 65, the work of Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors is essential. The organization provides a variety of services that support older adults to live well at home, including transportation, reassurance checks, foot care, home maintenance, and one of their most recognized programs: Meals on Wheels.
Each year, volunteers deliver thousands of hot, nutritious meals to seniors in our region. But for many, it’s more than just the food—it’s the friendly smile, the conversation, and the peace of mind that comes with every knock on the door.
Maggie McDougall, a dedicated volunteer driver, knows this well. Since retiring 10 years ago, she’s immersed herself in meaningful community volunteering.
“I really like being a part of the team and connecting with the people on my route,” said Maggie. “These are such important services to support healthy aging and help seniors stay in their homes longer.”
Recently, Stacey Daub, President and CEO of Quinte Health, joined Maggie on a Meals on Wheels delivery in Ameliasburgh. It was a moving reminder of how health and community are deeply connected.
“These programs play a crucial role in community well-being and patient recovery,” said Stacey. “Too often, patients stay in the hospital longer simply because they don’t know about available resources within the community. Collaboration and awareness are key to ensuring people get the support they need to return home sooner. Maggie is more than a Meals on Wheels driver—she’s a lifeline, a friendly face, and a vital part of the care system that helps people stay safe and healthy at home.”
