Respect and Safety in Our Hospitals
At Quinte Health, we are committed to providing care in a safe and respectful environment for everyone. We understand that healthcare can be a stressful experience, and at times, individuals may display frustration or distress. However, we require respect for our teams and the people around you.
Disrespectful, aggressive, or violent language or actions are not acceptable and can jeopardize the safety and well-being of both patients and staff.
How We Respond to Aggressive or Violent Behavior
We believe in responding to these situations in a calm, clear, and consistent way.
Here is how we handle aggressive, violent, or harassing language and/or actions:
- First Step: We will calmly ask you to stop any inappropriate language or behaviour.
- Second Step: If the behaviour continues, we will inform you that you may be asked to leave the premises if it doesn’t stop.
- Third Step: If the behaviour persists, we will ask you to leave the facility to ensure the safety of others.
- Final Step: If you refuse to leave, we will contact security or, if necessary, the police to ensure the situation is handled appropriately.
A Commitment to Care
We understand that mental health conditions can sometimes contribute to behaviour that is challenging to manage. Our goal is always to de-escalate situations in a way that respects both the patient’s needs and the safety of our healthcare teams. We are here to help, and we will do our best to provide support and care, while maintaining a safe environment for everyone.
