Pharmacy Services

Our team of pharmacists provide clinical pharmacy services to inpatients and some outpatients at all four Quinte Health hospitals. Our team of pharmacy technicians provide all drug distribution services. We are committed to the ongoing development of the pharmaceutical care model of practice.

Our pharmacists are active members of corporate-wide multidisciplinary service teams and councils as well as the Pharmacy Professional Practice Committee. They provide in-services, clinical teaching, and drug information to other health care professionals and the public. They also are active participants in the education and training of pharmacy students and interns. We provide two practice sites for placement of pharmacy students for their Structured Practical Experience Program (SPEP) through the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto, and Waterloo University. Our pharmacy technicians participate in student placements and in the training of pharmacy technician applicants. They are preceptors for their Structured Practical Training (SPT).

We have one satellite pharmacy in oncology where our oncology pharmacists and technicians work next to our Oncology Clinic. This has greatly improved this aspect of our service, both in drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities. Quinte Health has a corporate-wide automated drug distribution system and pharmacy-based, computer-generated medication administration record on our nursing units. The Pharmacy Department at Quinte Health is committed to improving patient safety and patient outcomes.
