Quinte Health and our five partner organizations continue to work toward implementing Lumeo, a Regional Health Information System (RHIS) that will improve information flow for patients and healthcare teams across our region.

In the latest Lumeo Spotlight podcast, hear from John Remington, a Clinical Informatics Specialist with Quinte Health and a Lumeo Subject Matter Expert (SME), as he discusses how the new Lumeo system will drastically improve communication and how the RHIS is more about people than technology.

“All six organizations across the region are choosing to make this change,” said John during the podcast. “The end goal is better patient care and information sharing, which I think aligns with what we all want.”

John’s explanation for why he’s a Lumeo champion is simple: “I’m embracing Lumeo because I see there will be improvements [for patients and staff]. We need our teams to get on board and help make it work. At the start, there will be some hard sledding, but let’s embrace it.”

He goes on to say, “At first glance, I think the Lumeo system could look overwhelming to some end-users [staff]. It’s so different from what we currently have. Our current system was invented in the 1970s, and it looks very archaic. I think staff are ready for change even though they are a bit anxious to learn something new.”

John assures us that the changes are worth it, for both staff and patients. Medical administration will be easier and safer; patient information and test results will be visible immediately both within one hospital and across the partner hospitals; and all of these technological advancements will lead to better patient care.

Six healthcare organizations in the southeast region, including Quinte Health, Kingston Health Sciences Centre, Providence Care, Lennox & Addington County General Hospital, Brockville General Hospital, and Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital, will be implementing the Lumeo Regional Health Information System (RHIS) in December 2024. A RHIS allows hospital organizations to access an individual’s health information as soon as it is recorded, regardless of the location within the region. Each hospital organization within the region currently has its own electronic medical records system, making vital information flow extremely difficult.
